Phase I Completion
Phase I of the Grayling Fish Hatchery Restoration, a $445,000 investment in the future of the Hatchery, nears completion. A beautiful “natural” trout stream has replaced crumbling cement raceways. A storm water runoff pond filters the brine and waste that runs off North Down River Road, helping to keep the AuSable pure at the Hatchery and downstream. The Kids’ Fishing Pond, Michigan Meadows, and new landscaping are in place. Permanent, handicapped-accessible restrooms have supplanted a single portable toilet. The parking lot has been paved. Damaged raceways have been repaired and young trees have been planted to shade the raceways and keep the river cool.
If you haven’t been to the Grayling Fish Hatchery lately, you need to come see the changes.
