MISSION & VISION STATEMENT
GRAYLING FISH HATCHERY MUSEUM PROJECT

Mission Statement
Our goal is not only to become a recreational site, but also to preserve
the natural resources that exist because of the river and adjacent lands.
Through the historical museum, interpretive trails, park facilities and
educational programs, we will allow people to see things as they once
were and how they could be in the future.

Vision Statement
The Fish Hatchery Museum will highlight the history of the AuSable and
Manistee River Valleys. Our desire is not to compete with local historical
societies, logging museums, or other local parks depicting a past era, but
rather to work with those entities to help promote the richness of our
fabulous region.
2001 OUTSTANDING RURAL PARTNERSHIP AWARD
The Grayling Fish Hatchery Restoration Committee was recognized on 3/19/2001 at a
conference hosted by the Michigan Association of Regions, the Rural Development
Council of Michigan, and the Michigan Association of Resource Conservation and
Development Councils.  The Fish Hatchery Restoration Project was nominated because it
involves partnerships between families, individuals, the Grayling Uptown District
Association, Grayling Promotional Association, Grayling Township, City of Grayling, the
Eagles Auxiliary, Weyerhaeuser Company, Michigan National Guard, Waste Management,
Inc., the Community Improvement Fund, local real estate offices, Grayling Recreational
Authority, Crawford County, Huron Pines RC *D, the AuSable River Property Owners
Association, and others.  For this, the project received the “2001 Outstanding Rural
Partnership Award.”

RAINBOW TROUT AWARD
Trout Unlimited Mason-Griffith Founders Chapter presented the Grayling Fish Hatchery
Steering Committee with their Rainbow Trout Award at their annual meeting on Saturday,
January 10th, 2004. “In appreciation of your dedication to improving the cold water
resources in the Upper AuSable and Manistee Rivers,” TU recognized the storm water
runoff pond installed as part of the Hatchery restoration project, as well as other changes
which will improve the overall quality of the AuSable River as it passes through the
Hatchery.  The storm water pond, now in operation, drains approximately 25% of the city
of Grayling, to catch and filter brine and other wastes which previously poured directly into
the river.
